Hi Bikers!!

Super duper wuper newbie here and I'd like to intro myself first. I have not been cycling for ages (>10 yrs) and I used to ride an el cheapo MTB in a small town w/o helmet or safety accessories. Back then, traffic wasn't so bad tho.

I would like to take up biking again, to get fit and cross-train for my running (or whatever minimal running i'm doin.. Rolling Eyes )... and I'd like to do some road biking.... thinking of gettin a hybrid, something like a Polygon trexia.

My question is... how safe is it to ride solo on highways like KESAS, NKVE, etc? I've heard of horror stories of hit-n-run cases and I'm pretty much worried about safety. I'd like to hear what you experienced bikers who go out there week in week out have to say... for some real life experiences and maybe some tips for staying alive...

Sorry if this is long-winded... but that's the case it is with newbies like me!

Cheers! Very Happy

Hey welcome to the forum. In my opinion it is not advisable to ride solo. It is always better to ride in a group as you will be more visible. If you want to ride with a group do join the PCC road division for weekly rides. I believe they have both beginners and expert rides. Best is join the club by visiting website at pcc-cycling.freeservers.com

Hi I am not sure what you mean by hybrid bikes. A few members have recumbents and trikes. There is someone who actually brings in recumbents for sale and also promoting it. In fact this year at the PCC Interstate ride I rode on a trike from Taiping to Bukit Mertajam ( 130KM). Definitely very comfortable ride ( no ass ache at all) but felt a bit strange becoz of the unusual riding position.

Give me you email and phone number and I can put you thru the right person for this.
Cheers

Its actually a road bike frame with 700c wheels but in an upright riding position like an MTB (with MTB style handle bar and shifters)

I'm not into recumbents or trikes... when I get a bike, I'll definitely join PCC and try to come for the weekly rides.. Very Happy
