I've been searching high and low for website or forums about bike. This is one that I found. Not much info about local bike news in Google. Hard to find. By the way, I'm nota bikers yet but planning on buying a bike. Not expensive one for long distance like those pros but a nice one that could replace my car so that I don't have to drive just to go to the supermarket or office. I hope pros here can guide me about bike since I know nothing about it. The last time I had a bike was during secondary school, mountain bike now sudah jadi tukun...

Nice to meet you Razz

Hi,
Welcome to our forum....atleast u know that we are all near by..haha..

If u just want a bike to go beli sayur...i suggest just grab any bike from the shop..best will be those that have a basket..easy to carry your stuff..

but if u are interested..u can join us on our weekend ride...either road or offroad riding....we do this more for exercise, fellowship and fun...then, u will need to consider a good bike...

if u join us on the offroad ride, we can even loan u a spare bike to ride before u decide to buy one from the shop...atleast u will know what u like after that...

cheers

Typically there are 2 types of popular bikes. Mountain bikes/ MTB (or also known as all-terrain bikes/ ATB) and road bikes. If you want to take up cycling as a hobby and sport eventually but are unsure of your preferences (road vs offroad or both), as Kompressor dude said...maybe u can borrow the Club's MTB temporarily.

Generally, most of us started off with a MTB. Any MTB worth it's salt should set you back a minimum of RM1600. There are cheaper bikes around, of course; but if you are serious about the sport, you will be spending more money on an upgrade in no time.

MTB can be used on both road and offroad, you just need to change the knobby tires to slick tires for road use. As such, it is more versatile. However, as it is heavier than a road bike, it will require more effort to keep up with a road bike. Road bikes have lighter weight frames and skinny tires. But their application is reserved for road. Most avid bikers have both bikes.

My suggestion is the same as Kompressor dude. Use the Club's mtb first. Come and ride with us...dun worry PCC is a newbie-friendly club...and like the marines motto, we never leave anyone behind....(er, eve tho you might be riding behind mostly..hehehehe). Try both our Mud n Dirt (offroad) rides and also our Tar n Grime (road) rides. Then you can make up your mind as to which bike to get.

Hope this helps.

Cheers

thanks Donz for the tips. I've checked out a bike shop in Setapak (there's not much bike shop around, eh?) and I fall in love with the Le Run MB RM450. Can't afford to get the 1.6K yet not until I'm sure I will love cycling. I'm just giving it out a try since I've left cycling after school.

Thanks Smile

We usually meet at my house in AU2A. We start cycling at 09:00pm and finish at around 10:00pm. If you want to join we will follow our scenic route, very easy and perfect for beginner. Give our unoffical ride director En. Zul a call. We be glad to meet you at your house and start from there.
