There's a rumour that road riding is more fun than mountainbiking. Says you get to see the latest automobiles on the road. Close up views indeed. Inches away as they zoom past you. Nevermind those lorries and buses or the fumes they emit. Think of the loads of sunshine you get under the sun. Seems good source of Vit E. Or is it Vit D? Also you don't need to wash your bike each time after a ride. Saves water.
I dunno, I'm mud&dirt hardcore hidden under a canopy of trees most of the time. What say you people?

oh, I thought MB sounds more fun because everyday you are stuck with the traffic and MB is one of the alternative to run from the hectic life Smile

i wouldn't say one is more fun than the other, they're just different. roadies like riding on the road, mtbers like riding trails. no need to slam one another for enjoying what they enjoy. the important thing is we're all riding.

For me MTB is better cause you can ride on road and offroad. Imagine riding a road bike offroad Rolling Eyes . I ride MTB mostly on the road finding short-cuts thru fields etc. you could not do that on a road bike.

dangerous thread! roadie vs mtb fight coming up!

i agree with tryathlete - how much fun road or off-road is, is up to the individual.

i'm a pure roadie, but can see the point-of-view of mtb'ers regarding traffic, pollution etc...

Cool firstly...it is not a topic for making comparisons.....as you are dealing with two completely different form of sport...i'm refering to them as a sport because using the two bikes as a utility vehicle doesn't warrant any form of discussion... Arrow back to Mtb and road riding as a sport....
the only similarity they have is both has wheels and two of them on most.

Mtb's have a completely different frame construction, different measurements,to be ridden on a different type of terrain to give the user different types of challenges...in order to gain a feeeling of enjoyment second only to a 30 minute orgasm supposedly enjoyed by pigs.

ditto for a road bike ...they are also constructed differently for a different riding purpose...but ultimately to feed your passion for riding and satisfy that feeling of having achieved your initial objective of riding ...

therefore....there is no basis for trying to make comparisons of which is better....becos such a futile excercise is an act of being 'kiasu'...now this is where you can use the term in a proper context... Shocked ...so let's just ride...whatever we want to ride it's ok.... Cool

As a person , who cycle on both side....i think it is indeed very subjective.
its like asking another fellow mtb'er " u like baggy or lycra"?

fullsus or hardtail?...

11 yrs of riding a mtb..then to a road bike for 1 ++ yr.

i can tell ya... both is pretty fun...(Doing two chics at one time is pretty tough ya, know )

No Wonder! Cyclo-cross is fun...road bike with off road technical skill......

Where can i get one????!!!!!!

Very Happy dreambiker, you are superb in putting things into perpective. So factual & technical.

I am new to riding & I like road. Have an MTB but never try off road. I am just scare chicken shit of the falling Razz, not that you won't fall riding on the road. Laughing Just a gut knowing is not for me.

I suppose it is about the person you are, you will know which is for you, may be both.

One thing I notice though is that Roadies seems to be more active on line than M&Ds in this forum. Perhaps they are more 'switched' on in IT ? Or is there a deeper reason than this ?

Cool hi fmkfcy..sorry cannot remember...i wanted to quote what you said in your post reply..but i'm not IT savvy so dunno how to do it ...but anyway i wasn't going to post anything on this subject of roadie vs. mountie anymore ....but cannot resist replying to you on subject of roadies being more active on this forum Laughing

Reason is simple and have nothing to do with being IT savvy or IT plugged 'on' or' in'...you see ah....Roadies ride fast like the wind and they finish their rides pretty quick even the newbies finish their rides very fast...so they then have the time to do other things....whereas the Mounties....spend long hours trying to climb those hills, they even get off their bikes quite often to go over the large stumps or deep ravines(personally i wonder why people ride if you have to get off the bike ) and then when they finally finish....they have to clean the bikes as well...so where got time to go on line ma.... Laughing .ha ha ha Laughing he he he Laughing ....ok no more ... Cool promise Wink

Hi Dreambiker,
If roadies ride becoz they like it fast as you say and then get to go home quick, why not ride a motorbike? I think even with a kapcai you can hit 100kph easily (that'd be 4x your average speed) and it costs only a fraction of what you spend on those roadbikes, haha! But I know that's not the point. It's something else. I think it's the same thing that make us mountainbikers get off our bikes frequently to push up a hill or down deep ravines and then go home entirely happy with the 'ride'.
Guess we look for different things in a ride. Speed for you roadies and for mountainbikers, the satisfaction of overcoming challenging terrain, even if it means walking the bike half the ride.
Cheers.
