is there any special rules while riding on the road? which one is safe, riding along with the traffic or opposite of the traffic?

i would never ride a bike against traffic. however if you are running i would run against the traffic.

BE ALERT. assume that drivers can't see you. be careful if "undertaking". watch out for people opening doors in front of you when in a jam. don't listen to music/mp3 player while riding.

mp3 players while riding, especially on busy roads, are not recommended. when you're plugged in, you won't be able to hear the traffic around you. and that can be quite dangerous. also, you might get caught up in your music and lose concentration.

remember, we are sharing the road with cars, and you know how malaysian drivers can be. and since we are almost invisible to motorists' eyes, it helps to be as alert as we can.

thanks for the tips. Really appreciate it.

I know that it is against the law to use cellphone while driving or riding motorcycle. Those kind of road rules, does it apply to us as bicycle rider as well?

not so sure of its legality or otherwise but i try not to use my mobile while on the bike. having said that, i have answered a few calls while riding, but they were always in situations where there were no cars around and i'm going very very slowly. when i'm going flat out or in the middle of a climb, i usually ignore my phone.
