Cycling is a sport dominated mainly by the male. The probably reasons could be the energy & strength level, the consistency in performance day in day out,........Having pickup cycling(road) just a few months back, I must say I love the sport. Laughing But I discover some challenges in doing the sport :

- As one of the newbies, I have an average speed of about 28-30km/hr. Most experience riders clock a consistent of 30-35/km. Sad
- In order to ride better, the only way is to keep riding and clock the distant. Here comes the big challenge : (1) hard to find female riders in the same level to sort of train/ride together (2) Safety : even if we know of the route which we can train/just ride, we can't be like the guys, just take the bike & kayuh-on. Sad

I am aware of all the PCC nite rides, but I am also aware most of these groups are at least fairly riders as they are training for competition. Wouldn't it be nice to have female cyclist groups riding in several riding routes/location on weekdays & weekends, where newbies can just join in, not "intimidated" by all the strong riders & be hooked on riding ?
tell me I am not wishful thinking or day dreaming Embarassed Razz

So, I wonder if anyone(s) out there would be keen to attract & nurture female cyclistss/groupss....Wink it can be done within the schedule nite ride and more..What do you think ? is this possible & do-able ? Very Happy

Hullo there sis Cool riding an average speeed of 28-30km makes you a rather strong newbie...or newbie on steriods...I'm male and have been riding for over a year and still trying to average 30km /hr. I've had to color my bike red and buy red jerseys to create the visual effect of speed...I don't know which PCC groups u have been following but the rockin and rollin' tues nite club jammers certainly caters for newbies...irrespective of age, sex, color and creed and type of bike one rides. If you require someone to pace you or ride next to you we will endeavour to meet your need...we have a sweeper system which works well for begginers and we also provide chicken loops for longer rides to encourage newbies to ride with us....In fact this also holds true for the sunday rides put together by PCC...please contact your nearest PCC liason for update ....

PCC- where everyone wants to ride Cool

yeah, the pcc tuesday night ride is for all levels of cyclists. there's no need to be intimidated by the riders in this group. heck with your 28-30kph average, we'll be intimadated by you!!! and we often get a fair share of female riders on that ride too. come check it out and kayuh-on..

Embarassed Shocked have I read the wrong number on my odometer ? Rolling Eyes I wonder. If you are clocking 30km/hr after riding over a year then I must be only 18-20km/hr lor. Embarassed lesson in reading the meter

Heard a fair bit of Tues nite ride. But as far as I understand, the damansara height area is pretty hilly. I wonder will it be tolak-on instead of kayuh-on Laughing

I heard from some cycling friends who are training for ironman or something, have been riding on that road from Puchong to KLIA. They said is less traffic & has got a good distant of about 80-100km. Wonder why no ride is schedule on this route on Sat morning ?

Where are the female riders ??? Razz Embarassed

this sport is filled with testosterone lah.! mostly all batangs oni!!

wanna attract the ladies??... you got to slow... you got to wear tights fitting jersey.... i'd swear they ogle at your butt!!!!

Gotta bring em to a short route.... "a picnic " type of route. flat with small hills added in. Else they rather go to the gym....

the trouble with cycling is " where can i get a bike to fit her in such short notice?"!!

On a more serious note, i think tuesday nite ride is one of the safest around. Yeah its hilly..but its very doable.just take ur time
perhaps it is good to ask the ride leader to for a sweeper. that will take care of things. or go with a partner....

Perhaps PCC tuesday nite can reroute it to a less hilly path.

.. Tuesday night ride was originally based route to the birdpark however the roundabout and the road condition is a risk to the less experience cyclist.

..i have a sense of respect to the ladies who shows up and rides
As for me ... i have trouble waking up on saturday and sunday...!!
after late nites of "carbo loading"

yes,..there is a sweeper system where there is always one person who knows the route that will join the last person to ensure that everyone is in one piece

Cool firstly...maybe you shud recalibrate your sensor to the right size wheels... Arrow next ...tues nite hilly rides.....for the first time all hills appear daunting and almost impossible to climb...and when the mind says its impossible...the legs agree....nonetheless...the science centre climb and the tues nite route provides begginers the ideal ride for cardio improvement and quads strength build up given the short climbs and some straights...it's almost like interval training and it takes a total of 1.30 minutes of ride time if you go slow and you will burn about 800-900 calorties. The science centre is 720metres of climbing and there are 5 other less serius climbs of 750 metres of very gradual climb from Manulife to skbd school, 50 meters on jalan setiabestari,2 sets of about 50 metres on jalan bruas and the last short climb of 100 meters back to science centre...then one last one thru klgcc of gradual 650 meters...total accent for that nite ride is about 400 meters distributed over 20km...thats not too bad Twisted Evil
but we hear you guys and dolls and are thinking of varying the route to go behind victoria station and on to jalan setiajasa then to jalan beringin which wud bypass the science centre...maybe this wud be tried on next tuesday.....BUT at the end of the day......hiils do provide half the fun of cycling cos no hills mean no downhills...da Exclamation Mr. Green

in case you were wondering, or in shock, the figures dreambiker states is the LENGTH of the climb - not the ascent!

for newbies - the fastest i've ever done the tue night ride is 1h 1m = 23.2kph average.

it is NOT a fast ride, and even if there are a few strong riders pushing it a bit, we almost always get stopped at sri hartamas traffic lights after about 20mins, and then stop to regroup after 35mins anyway - so it is good for any level of rider.

hihi Cool sorry adrian...I was referring to the ASCENT...which i stated as 400 metres...actually the tues nite d'sara ride tatal ascent is 220 metres...just to benchmark it...the last sunday's ride....bentong ice kachang back to genting sempah..the ascent is 470metres....so our tues nite ride is not too bad a climb. The other figures of 720 metres etc refer to distances of the climb as adrian pointed out...the length. Razz

Hi Sherrina, Ya, quick get a bike. Lets go riding !!! The odometer. lights, helmet & stuff are accessories you got to get when you get a bike.

dreambiker, thanks for all tips & the numbers. A good gauge for me.
Tryathlete, Dreambiker, BB, Alex, thanks for all the assuring words. Will try one of this day. Will pm u guys when i wanna come, ok. Sherrina, let go together gether Very Happy

Apart from the pcc route, is there anywhere in PJ good for some base riding ? not as hilly as tues ride, can do rounds to build distant endurance ?

hi kayuh-on... there's the kota damansara loop. it's 4k long and flat. ppl normally do 10 loops for a total of 40k. good for speed and endurance workout. can go as long as you want or as short as you want.

me personally, i find doing multiple loops repetitious and boring. would rather do one long 40+k loop and be done with. but that's just me.

guys,
how do you transport your bike from your home to another place? Don't tell me you ride all the way....is there anything that can be use to tie the bike to the car besides the usual method which is put it on the car's roof?

i take off the front wheel and put the bike in the backseat of the car.
or i take off both wheels and put in the boot.

Alamak. Past bed time, post reply but pressed the wrong button, it becomes a new post. Razz

Hi Sherrina, no need canggih bike lar. Although canggih bike may gained you some status quo acceptance I suppose. heheheh.

To transport, you can put it in the back seat; some take both wheels out & keep in the boot, or recline back seat & put the bike in with or without the front wheels. If you want, i think you can also invest in bike carrier I suppose.

Try, I heard of the Kota D'sara loop. Hmm, may be I shall try that.
