Dear pro bikers,

I'm planning to ride bike to office which is about 10km from home through MRR2 highway and in the evening somewhere near Jalan Genting Kelang. Heavy traffic jam area.

My question, for safety purpose what should I wear/use during riding? Is there any special jacket or helmet or any rules about safety to ride during daylight?

Let's share the knowledge Very Happy

i would use a flashing front white and rear red LED lights, and bright (yellow or orange) clothing, with reflective surfaces or markings.

Always wear a helmet. If you dont mind the fashion or lack of it, do wear the reflective vest.

thanks all for the input.

Yup, would definitely get a helmet so that the wind will not fly my tudung away. Yup, thinking of getting the reflective vest as well. I hope it have pockets to store my handphone. Safety comes first, fashion is later. Razz

What's a flashing front light? is it the light where we use at night when riding?

OK.. Laughing bravo for being brave enough to ride MRR2 and jalan genting kelang in heavy traffic.....what to wear...is anyone out there old enough to have seen mad max or thunderdome ..where they play the game in the dome....did you notice what they were wearing...its like the medieval period where sir lancelot and the knights of the round table wore....yup if you want safety thats it....and definitely tudung won't fly off... Wink ok just jesting....now what you shud not wear when cycling road or mountie is underwear....wear proper bike shorts and gear for your own comfort...then the helmet...and please do not choose the one from carrefoure becos the color is nice and matches your bike and its on 97% discount...get a proper cycling profiled helmet..and the right size....wear gloves cos that hits ground first when you fall and also your fist looks alot bigger when you show it to the taxi driver who cut infront of you...bila reach your destination change into your normal clothes (don't forget the underwear)...that shud keep you riding along for a long time... Cool

hahaha...thanks all for the feedbacks. Really appreciate it. Just errr one tiny question...why can't wear underwear instead wear bike short? any special reason? Yup, I guess I'll invest in a really good helmet. Need to check out the specialty bike shop in Tmn Melawati. Hard to find bike shop around here.

Yup, if you see me riding on the MRR2 gimme a soft honk okay Very Happy

p/s: By Feb when my fund is enough I'll start hit the road by bike....yahoooooo.......

Laughing ok so to the underwear question.....its a technical issue....but cut to the chase.....bike shorts are designed to keep you comfortable...that is what the 'chamois' padding is for and it's also designed to give protection where protection is due...and required. the specially designed shorts also allows the parts in question to 'breathe'. Wearing an underwear might and in most instances cause chaffing as the underwear is not designed to complement your bike shorts....and its design is certainly not for riding a bike....but if u have reservations or pantang against wearing lycra type form fitting shots then maybe look at those designed for cool mounties...they are like cargo shorts but they have bike chamois padding....however be accurate with the sizing so as to provide the necessary protection you require. Cool

<thread hijack>speaking of shorts, i've just invested in a pair of bib-shorts. i've heard that once you go bibs, you will never go back to shorts.

can't wait to try em out tonight.

roll on tuesday night rockers!!</thread hijack>

yeah, taking a leak could be a problem. but it's a small trade-off when you think about the hours and hours of comfort you'll be getting.

but i haven't tried them yet, so i really dunno how much comfort there will be. guess i'll find out tonight.
