Hi. Hope this forum is still active.

I'm looking for a bike and am not sure which to buy, a roadie or MTB. Usage is just cycling around town. Some occasional offroads but prefer to cycle around for site-seeing around states.

Budget is only a low RM500. Nothing more. Looking at you guys/gals, the bikes seem very expensive.

Any advise is appreciated.

Hi If you are new to biking I suggest go for a MTB. Go for a hardtail with front suspension. That way you can ride both on and off road. Just need to change to road tires if you want to ride on the road for longer distance.

Not sure how much bike you can get for RM 500. Perhaps go check out the stores and see if you can get a second hand bike for that price.
Hope this helps

Thanks for your reply.

I've rode a road bike a long time ago and would now probably get a MTB as it's more versatile I suppose.

Thought of getting a full suspension as it's comfortable. The shop near me quoted RM450 for a full suspension bike with Shimano 21-speed gear and shifter.

I do have another option of getting a Lerun Ultimax but with only 18-speed.

What would you recommend?

Hi If the price difference is not much go for the 21 speed. If you can get a 24 or 27 better as you will need them if you go off road riding. I suppose for a start 21 is ok.

Well, I got me self a 21-speed alumium bike. Not many bikes with 24-speed not to mentioned 27.

But some issue in that shifting gears between 3-5 isn't smooth. It's a hit and run thing making it terribly difficult to climb hills smoothly.

Am planning to go back to the shop to look at it but in the mean while, any idea why?

Sorry about the delay in response. I hope you have your gears fixed. You probably need to go back to the shop and ask them to adjust the shifting properly. Perhaps it has gone off and need to reset back.
