I joined a group of riders on Sunday to ride the 5 Hills trail in Parit Buntar. I have not ridden the trail for quite some time. When Maverick, the owner of KT Cycle SMS me about the ride, I decided to join them.
The trail is called 5 Hills because it has 5 hills to climb. You can see from the trail profile that there are actually 6 peaks. But the small ascent between the first and the second does not count as one and the two peaks on the fourth counts as one too. Total distance: ~18km. Time taken: ~3 hours.
We gathered at the trailhead at around 8.30am. The ride began immediately after everybody had their bikes set up. Total riders: 20.
After the trailhead, we were riding along next to NSE south bound. If you were coming from Penang direction and towards before the Bandar Baru exit, you should see the trail on your left hand side.
We rode past a cemetery. It seems an old one. I saw a Jap buried there. Too bad I forgot to take a picture of it.
The first climb. This is a gradual one. I remember first I rode this few years back, I was puffing like a fish out of water already. How time changes!
View of trail before the regroup at the first hill.
Nice view at the first hill.
Descent after first hill
Regroup between hill one and hill two.
It looks flat. But in actual it is a slope and quite a bumpy one after the bent.
Begin of the second hill.
The fourth climb and also the steepest one! It is an out of saddle climb!
This fat leech suck my blood on my chest! I didn't even know it was there until I took off my shirt at the regroup at the fourth hill.
The view of the trail after the regroup at the fourth hill.
Rock garden at the fourth hill. Don't think any ride manage to ride down the whole.
The is the fifth and the longest climb. The gradient is gradual but most riders find the climb overwhelm due to the length of the climb(1km).
Seeing here a rider struggle to before reaching the regroup point.
This used to be a downhill singletrack. But has become a double. Still an enjoyable ride. I still miss the twisty singletrack though!
At the end of the descent it was a chicken ranch.
We finished the ride at around noon. We adjourned to the famous beef koay teow for lunch in Parit Buntar after the ride.
