Worrying trend....lesser new riders

Hi guys

i was wondering why there's getting less and less new women (below 95 years old) in PCC?

Also, we must push multiculturism in cycling. Have you guys notice the dearth of Indian and Sri Lankan riders not only in PCC, but in cycling in KL? What is it about cycling that keeps our black brothers away from the saddle? Maybe we need to make a survey.

Also, maybe we need to inject more excitement into the sport. Kids are longer riding their bikes. If this keeps up, the bicycle might eventually end up as a clothes hanger. Whadyya think?

Cheers

Donz,
Base on the ration of the racial composition of the country I think you might find that is not surprising in terms of the lack of Indian or riders of other case. That could be one reason. The other reason is that the riding culture is just not there in Malaysia. This is proven by the high percentage of Mat Sallehs who ride.

In any case do not worry too much of the racial or gender make up of the weekend rides. It should be about the ride and riding together that is important. Should'nt it ?

one possible reason why there is a lack of indian riders is simply because they can't take corners. everytime they come to a corner, they set up a mamak store. Laughing

just kidding!

i spotted an elusive indian cyclist yesterday , and its not the one pedaling the cendol stall ,k this dude got a scott. Smile ...heh

Anyway... New riders? in what perspective? thats really new to cycling or New to PCC?

if its talking about new riders joining pcc rides.... i guess its is a group thingy.....i do know there are plenty of small pockets of groups around...

Are they afraid to join us? are we too snobbish?? not supportive enough?

Perhaps PCC needs a image change? perhaps with arms wide open?
Perhaps they newb just arent into cycling clubs....
Perhaps they newb just want their own personal wind....
Pretty subjective if you ask me.....

There are ppl who are interested however the cost of cycling lifestyle is totally put off by the hefty price tags.... "Ohh.... i'll just join the gym.la....!!!!!"

Perhaps we all can inject some love into it.... just give a holler to a cyclist where ever you see one....thats a start....

less and less women...? They are creature of comfort...leh....The cycling they will ever do is in the gym on a stationary bike ler... not like singapore .... where the ladies are most sporty... Razz here the roads arent bike friendly... you can blame "Semi Value" for that.

CHeck this out....

actually, i see more and more riders out on the road now, but they'e mostly riding solo. so maybe the reason why there aren't any new cyclists in PCC is because they don't know PCC exists...

yeah, I didn't know PCC does exist until I accidentally found it via Google. And my honest opinion many do not take up cycling because there's not many places to ride safely, no friends, bicycle price is expensive (all thousands of ringgit, as a newbie I'll opt for the Le Run which is tagged at RM450 for a start) and kids no longer riding it because not safe to ride on the road anymore.

That's my two cent but I'd love to start riding again before I totally forgot how to ride a bicycle Laughing

I actually think there is some increase. The bike shops are doing reasonable business. As I can see there seem to many new faces and also mini groups in the MTB. Maybe many dont see them as the are in the trails most of the time ? Very Happy

Gotto let the word out...thats all...

.. i think there are more newbies in MTB that on roadies...

Reason being that mtb are slower more patient ..roadies are more kiasu...

generalizing riders isn't accurate. You must ride both to understand. Typically, roadies try their best to keep within the peloton so they can enjoy drafting and also learning & improving from more experienced riders. Besides, it more fun and safer riding in a group than alone.

Riding in a peloton offroad is nearly impossible, unless you have 20' wide tracks. Besides, mtb'ers need space btw the rider, if they wish to enjoy the trail.

Both Mud & Dirt (mtb) and Tar & Grime (road) segments of PCC practise sweeping systems. Kiausism is narrowed down to individuals, not groups.

Cheers

Cool quite rite donzie....generalizing isn't, it ..that's not even the issue...cycling whether Mtb or roadie....is a sport or recreation which one goes into for several reasons which are personal to the individual...it's not about type of bike, or how much your bike costs,or which group you ride with or which group is 'kiasu'....what is kiasu anyway?...don't think its an apt description in the above scenario.

nevertheless you do get certain benefits when you ride in a group...donzie states a couple...peloton benefits, learning curve, safety in numbers...thats all well and true...but the first question you should address is why do you want to ride Question be true to yourself....then go out and just ride...whether it be on your own or otherwise. ...having said that, the benefits of riding in an organised group is a plenty; the social interaction alone offers a great feeling; of being able to share your experiences with likeminded others....but beware or be aware there are many who ride in a 'group' but they actually just happen to ride at same speed in the same direction so they look like they are a group...but thats all to it....so my "going to be cyclist"...just pick up a bike and come and rock and roll with us....just ride it Exclamation
