There will be the obligatory traffic jams as you encounter the first hill. It’s single track so if you’re in the pack, expect to push up. But it’s not long and you’ll have a chance to get on the saddle again soon. Some great downhill single track follows but remember to space out to avoid pile-ups.
Another short climb takes you to open skies and wide trails before back into canopied single track. Here follows a small hike-a-bike into rubber plantation before out to double track all the way to the Check Point 1. Collect you sticker here, drink and then move on to Stage 2 or chicken out.
Stage 2 is aprox. 13km.
Physical Effort: 8/10
Technical Difficulty: 6/10

After leaving Check Point 1 you be inside cooling palm plantation with nice wide double tracks. One short hill climb leads you to the open section. Wide and desolate, it’s an eye-opener. From here is the major hill climb. 2km of climbing but all ride able. Stop at the top and look around for some superb vistas.
Now it’s through to the downhill. About 5km of downhill section on single track with some technical sections brings you out to the Nirvana Memorial Park and Check Point 2. Collect your sticker here, drink and then move on to Stage 2 or chicken out.
Stage 3 is aprox. 10km.

This stage starts with open skies but quickly ducks into cover and crosses a small river. A short hike-a-bike brings you out to a short hill climb before a fun descent to the second river crossing.
Some superb double and single track action up and down that may be familiar to last year and it all ends with an exciting blast down some terraces.
Check Point 3 is here. Collect you sticker here, drink and then move on to Stage 4 or chicken out.
Stage 4 is aprox. 14km.
Physical Effort: 5/10
Technical Difficulty: 5/10

The last stage is the fastest stage with the longest double track section. It starts with double track, goes into single track with the first hill climb and descent then breaks out into an open area where you have a fast dirt track following next to a river. A quick tour through a kampong and across the main road and into palm for the last hill climb.
There then follows a nice terraced descent in rubber trees and out to find Check Point 4.
Form here is an 8km ride back to the Start Finish line where you will be riding the same route as the Chicken riders so don’t get confused about the signs. This route also has some nice single track and canopy and this time, NO riding on the highway as we did the last 2 years but going through a housing estate.
So here’s an estimated distance breakdown to get an idea of what’s in store:
Stage 1: 12km + Return leg: 8km = 20km
Stage 1: 12km + Stage 2: 13km + Return leg: 10km = 35km
Stage 1: 12km + Stage 2: 13km + Stage 3: 10km + Return leg: 13km = 48km
Stage 1: 12km + Stage 2: 13km + Stage 3: 10km + Stage 4: 14km + Return Leg: 8km = 57km
